I'll BE SATISFIED
Text: Psa 17:15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
My Father counseled me, as a youth, "Son, a satisfied man is of no good to himself or anyone else."
The human race is, by nature, a complaining, dissatisfied mass.
Yet too many are satisfied too easily with things which should cause discontent.
I. Things which SHOULD satisfy man.
A. God's plan of Salvation.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
B. His material provisions.
Phil 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
I Tim 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
Christ is the Only source of godliness, hence contentment.
C. The Lord's Church
Eph.2:5 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Eph 3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Who are we to find fault with that which pleases Him?
D. His plan for service.
Eph:2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
E. The suffering of the crucified Christ.
53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
II. Some things with which God is satisfied.
A. The repentance of a lost soul.
Matt.9: 13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
B. The faithfulness of his people.
I Cor.4: 2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
C. The blood of his son.
Ex.12: 13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
I Cor.5: For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
D. The obedience of Christ.
Matt.17: 5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
III. God is NOT satisfied with;
A. Man's attempts to save himself.
Proverbs 16: 25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
B. Half hearted efforts by His people.
Matt.15: 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
C. Man's attempts to change His plans. [man made churches, etc.]
Psa. 127:1 A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
D Anything less than perfection
Rom 4:22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
II Tim 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
IV. We should not be satisfied with;
A. The number of souls we've won.
Jude 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
Pro 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
B. The extent of our service.
Phil 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
As long as even one soul remains lost, we can never say, "It is enough!"
V. Final satisfaction and its glory.
Psa 17:15 I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
